Job Description
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
- Administers and coordinates research compliance for committees including but not limited to Export Control, conflict of interest, regulatory and ethical standards.
- Performs risk assessments to determine compliance vulnerabilities; evaluates labs for export control purposes, including classification of equipment, technology, and software.
- Prepares documentation required for research compliance by University regulations and requirements. Maintains official institutional records of the actions and decisions of compliance committees.
- Monitors and audits research efforts to ensure that protocols meet regulatory and ethical standards and creates management plans as needed.
- Maintains an electronic resource base of materials that can be accessed as needed for inclusion in protocols (as required by funding agencies).
- Screens applications to assure completions and distributes for review.
- Reviews and makes determinations related to foreign national research applications according to related policies.
- Provides training to PIs, faculty, staff, students, and external collaborators on protocol related activities and compliance.
- Compiles research data to produce reports upon request. Responds to external agencies’ requests for information regarding research compliance.
- Reviews VISA applications for export control licensing requirements.
- Reviews and approves international travel and shipping.
- Monitors changes in existing federal and state laws, statutes and compliance regulations and makes recommendations for area of program improvement to address compliance requirements.
- Monitors university regulations and policies, and updates department procedures accordingly.
- Provides administrative support for compliance committees.
- Assists with updating procedures, forms, and informational materials as needed.
- Communicates relevant information to department staff, researchers, study personnel, and regulatory committee members.

- Participates in professional activities, trainings, national meetings and seminars related to position responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:
- This position requires either eight years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
- Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
- Experience in managing research compliance and working with research compliance committees in higher education.
- Experience with Microsoft Access and online databases.
- Experience with Workday or similar financial software.
- Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, and regulations related to the position.
- Knowledge of Descartes Visual Compliance.

- Knowledge of administrative and regulatory operations of compliance committees.
- Knowledge of and ability to work with legal documents and budgets.
- Knowledge of research compliance.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Skill in collecting and analyzing complex data.
- Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects when numerous and complex demands are involved.
- Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
- Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.
- Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
