Florida Gulf Coast University invites applications for an Instructor I to join the department of Integrated Studies as Colloquium Program Director. As Colloquium Program Director, you will teach a 2-2 load of IDS 3920 University Colloquium; will oversee all administrative aspects of Colloquium; and will work with the chair of Integrated Studies on program needs such as budget, scheduling, advising, faculty evaluation and searches, program assessment, and reporting.

Colloquium is a unique course to FGCU, serving to empower students to act for social, environmental, and economic sustainability in a constantly evolving world. Job Description

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

• Teach 6 credit hours of undergraduate Colloquium courses during the Fall and Spring semesters, in accordance with the annual assignment.
• Develop and deliver effective course instruction, including syllabi, lectures, instructional materials, assessments, and timely evaluation of student performance.
• Provide leadership and oversight for the administrative operations of the Colloquium program.
• Collaborate with the Chair of Integrated Studies on program needs, including budgeting, scheduling, advising, faculty evaluation and searches, program assessment, and reporting.
• Provide curricular and pedagogical leadership and ensure alignment across all Colloquium instructors and adjunct faculty.
• Lead the planning and oversight of Colloquium field trips and the student naturalist program.
• Maintain scheduled office hours and provide timely, professional communication with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators.
• Participate in departmental, college, and university meetings, faculty evaluation, assessment, curriculum development and revision, and other activities that support the program and University.
• Use the university’s learning management system and other required campus technologies to support instruction and program responsibilities.
• Complete required university training and comply with all applicable institutional policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Engage in ongoing self-assessment and professional development to support effective instructional and program practices and remain current in the field.
• Contribute to departmental, institutional, community, and professional service in alignment with the University’s mission.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in a sustainability related area from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline.
• Demonstrated potential for, or a record of, achievement in teaching undergraduate courses.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level.
• Evidence of successful programmatic and leadership experience.
• Experience developing and advancing a clear, forward-looking vision for an interdisciplinary academic program.
• Experience managing programmatic needs such as budget, scheduling, administrative work, faculty evaluation, program assessment, and reporting.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Knowledge of major concepts, assumptions, debates, processes of inquiry, and ways of knowing that are central to the discipline(s).
• Understands how to use digital and interactive technologies to efficiently and effectively achieve specific learning goals.
• Knowledge of critical thinking processes and understanding how to help learners develop high-level questioning skills.
• Knowledge and skill in the use of inquiry-based instructional models and strategies.
• Knowledge and ability to use technology in various teaching modalities (e.g., Face-to-face, synchronous online, or asynchronous online).
• Ability to collaborate with stakeholders both within and outside the University in developing and delivering instruction, resulting in improved student learning.
