The General Manager, Athletics provides strategic support to FGCU Athletics and coaching staff in roster management, revenue sharing, recruiting, budget management, and basketball operations. The position uses financial, market, recruiting, and performance data to inform roster construction and player personnel decisions; develops relationships with agents and recruiting networks; supports student-athletes pursuing professional opportunities; and ensures activities align with NCAA, ASUN, and University requirements. The General Manager also identifies opportunities to modernize basketball operations through analytics, technology, and emerging practices.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:


  • Provides strategic analysis and support for roster construction, revenue-sharing allocation, scholarship management, and long-term roster planning.
  • Manages and monitors roster budgets, salary-cap considerations, contracts, and related financial scenarios in collaboration with Athletics leadership and coaching staffs.
  • Develops and maintains recruiting intelligence and talent databases across high school, transfer, international, and grassroots markets.
  • Identifies and evaluates prospective student-athletes using film, data, rankings, market research, and risk assessment to inform recruiting and roster decisions.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with player agents, recruiting networks, professional organizations, and other talent sources.
  • Provides guidance and support related to NCAA transfer portal strategy, roster timing, eligibility, and applicable revenue-sharing requirements.
  • Tracks player development and provides data-informed analysis to support student-athlete and team performance.
  • Supports student-athletes and coaching staff with professional opportunities, including draft processes, combines, G League, summer leagues, and professional workouts.
  • Develops and utilizes analytics, data systems, and emerging technologies to enhance roster management, recruiting, player development, and basketball operations.
  • Serves as a strategic liaison between coaching staff, Athletics administration, and appropriate campus partners on roster, recruiting, financial, contractual, and operational matters.
  • Monitors NCAA, ASUN, and University requirements and collaborates with appropriate Athletics personnel to ensure compliance with applicable rules and policies.
  • Provides timely information, analysis, and recommendations to the Director of Athletics, Deputy Athletics Director, and coaching staff to support informed decision-making.
  • In addition to the primary reporting relationship, this position maintains a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Compliance, Senior Associate Athletics Director and works collaboratively to support organizational priorities, operational objectives, and responsibilities within the Office of Institutional Equity & Compliance.
  • Complies with all University, ASUN Conference regulations, as well as all NCAA rules and regulations. Remains current with all changes in NCAA, as well as changes to University, ASUN Conference rules and regulations regarding intercollegiate athletics. This includes the requirement for self-reporting any possible rule violations and participation in the annual NCAA continuing education programs including passing the NCAA certification test, if applicable. Any violation of NCAA rules is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

Required Qualifications:


  • This position requires either eight years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Experience in sport operations (coaching, managing, and/or playing) at the collegiate or professional level.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel throughout the country.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Business, Economics or related field.
  • Experience in financial management, budgeting, or related financial operations.
  • Experience with contract negotiation.
  • Experience working with sports or entertainment agents.
  • Experience working with data analytics and/or AI.
  • Experience in basketball operations at the collegiate or professional level.

  • Knowledge of NCAA, Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN), and Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) rules and regulations as they pertain to the job duties.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules pertaining to revenue sharing, eligibility, recruiting.
  • Knowledge of grassroots and international basketball as well as general college recruiting in all sports.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and competing demands are involved.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of independent judgement in the establishment, interpretation, application, and enforcement of all rules, regulations, and policies.
