Job Description

As the Experimental Psychology Assistant Professor, you will primarily teach undergraduate courses contributing to FGCU’s BA in Psychology program, including involvement in course and/or curriculum development. You will also be expected to maintain an active research agenda involving undergraduate students in the research process. Service responsibilities include a variety of activities that provide professional service to the university, profession, and/or community.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Psychology or closely-related discipline from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation.

Expertise in teaching courses that meet department needs in a B.A. Psychology program.

Evidence of successful teaching experience and potential for scholarly research using experimental and/or quantitative methods.

ABD will be considered if degree is conferred by August 7, 2018. If the successful candidate is ABD, appointment will be made at a Lecturer level on a fixed contract.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching a range of undergraduate psychology courses as well as a record of peer reviewed research.

Additional areas that will be given strong consideration include those with a research interest in childhood or adolescence, those taking a neuroscience approach to their research, as well as research areas that complement the current needs of the department (e.g., decision making, experimental psychology, developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, comparative psychology, behavior analysis, school psychology, physiological psychology, biopsychology, neural modeling, sensation & perception, or related fields).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Experience or commitment to the use of technology in distance learning & university teaching. Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning. Must value continued scholarship and service to the university and profession.

Although the specific area of expertise is open, candidates that are able to teach psychology of learning and that are able to contribute to the research methods and statistics core of the curriculum are strongly encouraged to apply.

Appointment will be made on a 9-month multi-year appointment basis available August 2018.
