Job Description

As the Occupational Therapy, Instructor I/Assistant Professor you will teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as applicable; be involved in course and/or curriculum development; research/scholarship; participate on College and University committees and/or initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Doctoral degree in occupational therapy or related field from a regionally-accredited institution.

Three or more years of practice experience in a variety of practice areas.

Initial certification by the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapists, and licensure or license eligibility as an occupational therapist in the State of Florida.

Must possess a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the field of instruction.

Must meet the University and College criteria for the appointment to the level of Instructor I.

Preferred Qualifications

Research Doctorate (PhD, ScD) or Post-Professional clinical doctorate and five or more years of experience in the practice of occupational therapy.

Record of research and teaching experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to mentor graduate student research studies.

Strong clinical skills in physical disabilities, geriatrics, or community practice, particularly UE/hand and/or mental health, provided sufficient time in each to establish clinical expertise.

Experience or commitment to the use of technology in distance learning & university teaching. Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning. Must value continued scholarship and service to the school and university.

Teaches his/her areas of expertise in the program; and mentors students in research, which ideally will be in the area of the candidates’ scholarly interests.

Engages in scholarly activities at the level required to ultimately apply for promotion to the next higher rank.

Participates in Department, Program and College faculty meetings, and provision of service to the College, Department, Program or professional community as their careers advance.

Participates in curriculum and course review and revision processes.

Assists with meeting accreditation requirements.

Advises students and engages in community involvement.

Candidates seeking Assistant Professor rank are required to have higher educational experience and credentials to justify appointment at that rank.

Appointment will be made at a faculty rank commensurate with the candidate’s experience on a 9 or 12-month multi-year appointment basis available August 2018.
